Luke Smith
Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, W1D 4HT , [Venue Details]A master of the Hammond organ as well as the piano, Luke Smith has been one of the UK's go-to players for more than two decades.
Performances and recordings with legends like Chaka Khan, Roy Ayers, B.B. King, and famously as part of George Michael’s band, have secured his place as one of the most respected live musicians in the industry.
Hailing from Manchester, Luke was raised in a deeply musical family. At just 17, he embarked on his first tour, marking the beginning of a lifelong career in music. He later moved to London, quickly gaining recognition and working with acclaimed artists such as Chaka Khan, Roy Ayers and Manu Dibango, before going on to record with George Michael on the Patience album in 2003.
As a songwriter, he has collaborated with Amy Winehouse on Frank (co‑writing “Take The Box” and “What It Is About Men”), and penned tracks for The Sugababes (“One Foot In, One Foot Out”) and Liberty X (“Greed”), to name a few.
His organ, piano and keyboard playing takes listeners on a journey through contemporary black music, reflecting the story of immigrant communities and cultural fusion in modern music.
